Installing a Vanity Unit
There are a number of things you need to consider before beginning a project like replacing or installing a vanity unit on your own.
1. Your level of experience with do it yourself projects.
2. The amount of help you can find.
3. The level of perfection required for you to feel comfortable with the finished product.
Most people with do it yourself experience understand that if you want perfection the first time around then you are better off hiring a professional for the job. Do it yourself projects are usually a “learn as you go” experience. If you are willing to give it a try then here are a few tips for installing a vanity unit.
Step One: Turn off the water to the bathroom space where you will be working.
Step Two: Remove the existing vanity and prepare the space by cleaning out the debris and fixing any visible damage to the area.
Step Three: Measure the space you will be using for your vanity.
Step Four: Measure the space you will be using for your vanity.
Step Five: Have your assistant/partner/spouse or whoever helping measure the space you will be using for your vanity.
(If you miss on the measurements then you may miss opportunities for a bigger or different vanity or worse you may end up with a vanity unit that doesn’t fit your space).
Step Six: Purchase a vanity unit that fits the measurements.
Step Seven: Mark the studs in the walls with a pencil for installation of the vanity.
Step Eight: Follow the directions for installation of the vanity.
Step Nine: Set the vanity in the measured space and the make sure that it is level. Use shims if necessary.
Step Ten: Attach the vanity to the wall through the braces provided.
Step Eleven: Caulk the sink area and set the sink in place.
Step Twelve: Reconnect the plumbing and turn on the water.
Installing a new vanity is not that difficult. It will help to have several sets of hands around to help with the demolition and heavy lifting. Following the instructions provided with the vanity unit is the key to installing the vanity unit correctly.
